Between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC numerous buildings associated with the sanctuary of Asklepos were constructed. The theatre was designed by Polykleitus the Younger in the 4th century BC. It is renown for its near perfect acoustics. The sound of a metal coin falling on the paving stones can be heard at any seat in the theatre.
