Mycenae was the main centre of the Mycenaean civilization that evolved between the 16th and 12 century BC. The name of the entrance comes from the relief group of two lions covering the triangle above the lintel. The sheer size of the walls which are astounding. They measure about 900 , long, 5.50 to 7.50 m thick, with a height of up to 12 m. They were built between 1350 -1200 BC. (Information from the Mycenae Archeological site).
