Red-bellied snake

During my walk today with Sasha, I came across this little red-bellied snake. It was stretched full length across some asphalt (full length meaning about 12 inches). The road is an abandoned one and vehicles almost never drive there, except the occasional security patrol, but I decided to move this little guy just in case a cyclist came along, or another walker, or a dog... who might step on him. It was sunny, about +12 out, and he had obviously come out to seek the sun and the warmth from the asphalt, but it was still cold and this one seemed sluggish and slow-moving. When I picked him up, he reared up slightly and twisted around, as if to look where I was taking him. Very cute little guy, and completely, totally harmless!

There's something quite pleasing about the curves, colors and texture in both subject and background.
