The Byzantine-inspired mosaics covering this entire enormous hall contain 19 million fragments of gold leaf. This wall depicts the Queen of Lake Mälaren. The figures on the left represent the West, including the Statue of Liberty, and those on the right represent the East, with such famous icons as Aya Sofya in Istanbul.
