This is a very large weevil (as weevil's go, that is) at about an inch or so. I thought it might be in the Genus Lixus, but thanks to Bug Guide I was told that it is in that subfamily, but a different genus (not Lixus as I thought, but Cleonis). According to Bug Guide, this species was introduced into North America sometime in the early 20th century.
