Large thistle weevil (Cleonis piger)

A back view of the large (about 1 inch) weevil shown in the previous photo. I know that not everyone finds weevils attractive, but I do!! Thanks to Bug Guide, I now know that this is a thistle weevil in the Genus Cleonis (not Lixus as I'd thought), but same subfamily (Lixinae). According to Bug Guide, this species was introduced into North America sometime in the early 20th century.

Nice back-view shot of this weevil Christine. My hat off to you for finding and posting all these interesting small subjects that many of us might otherwise not even be aware of.

He's a solid looking fella as if he's wearing armor and ready to plow ahead on his thick legs. V.
