On their way, 2012 Olympic sailing, Weymouth

Weymouth, Dorset

Having been born and raised in Weymouth, Carole and I decided to visit our old hometown today in order to soak up some of the Olympic atmosphere. Weymouth and Portland are hosting the many sailing races that are part of London 2012 and it was great to be able to get some shots of one of those races. The 80-400 came in really useful and the bright sunny day meant that I could do without a tripod and shoot handheld.

It was a brilliant day and it was good to see the town so full of people. The seafront has enjoyed something of a face-lift and we had no trouble at all getting in and out of the town. All-in-all, an exceptional day out!

I must admit when Britain was awarded the Olympics I was very doubtful that we would make a good job of it. But I have been proved so wrong. It has been a stunning event, people the length and breadth of the United Kingdom have been able to be involved In some way or another.. Glad that you had a great day out Chris

now we know who has been hogging the sunshine! Glad you got such a good sighting of the action and thanks for sharing

BTW I have used the 80-400 for years and apart from some of my 'moon' & 'angels view' galleries, its never been on a tripod. With the D7000, if you can't hold it still enough to turn the VR off, you are probably lost anyway.
