It is hard to understand what is Chastity Arch by our modern concept. The function of Chastity Arch is to commemorate the contribution and chastity of a widowed mother of senior officials.
In this arch, Qiu Liang-gung was general-in-chief of army in Qing Dynasty. His father was passed away after 35 days of he born. His mother has not remarried and maintained as a widow.
This arch was built in 1812 and the empire of Qing Dynasty awarded a title of “First Class Lady” to the mother of Qiu Liang-gung.
