I took a look through the viewfinder and hit the stop-down plunger, and liked what I saw as far as DOF and background focus...I wanted to hint at a foliage background, but keep it decidedly OUT of focus so the rain would stand in stark contrast to a slightly-dark background so I dialled in -.5 comp. I'd normally shoot this at 1/90th or so, but the rain was REALLY coming down in sporadic but fast, heavy drops,so I figured 1/125 second might look good. I had to wait between wind gusts so the rose branch would be fairly still when the shutter fired.
