Reverence, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Jerusalem, Israel, 2011

The light falling on this woman’s orange scarf as she entered the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem was striking. She seemed aglow, somber, and reverent as she approached the crowd of worshippers gathered around a large stone that is said to have once supported the body of Christ.

Yes -- it is the scarf, and the light that falls up it, that dominates the image. I love your view of carrying life into darkness, ironically into the very structure that houses the presumed sites of what Christians believe to be the most important death and entombment in the history of mankind.

There is such a lushness in the orange as it contrast with the relative monotone of the rest of the images. It is as if she carries life into the darkness.
