Kalakala, former Washington State ferry, in disgrace

Kodiak Island, AK

An eye-catching streamlined art deco ferry that operated on Puget Sound from 1935 to 1967. When I saw her she'd been beached and used as a shrimp processing plant. Later she was towed back to the Seattle area and plans were made to restore her. As of December 2011 she was listing dangerously at anchor and up for sale for $1.

I hope somebody can rescue her because she's like no ship I've ever seen - or anyone else has ever seen for that matter.

postscript 2022: Wikipedia says the ship was scrapped in 2015. RIP Kalakala.
