The Piaggio PD.808 was designed by the Douglas Aircraft Company/Long Beach, CA, as a business jet. No orders were received, and the complete project was bought by the Italian Piaggio Aero, which flew the first prototype in August 1965. Piaggio also failed to secure any worthwhile commercial interest, but a few examples were taken by the Italian Air Force. One of these was PD.808VIP MM61950 of 71 Gruppo, here seen landing at Ramstein, February 1988. All PD.808's (in various roles) were retired in the 1990's.
