Cobweb spider (Enoplognatha ovata), female

These small spiders are exceptionally pretty with their red colouring, although they can also occur in different forms, with no red on their abdomen. According to Bug Guide, this is the form redimita. The other common form, without the red, is lineata which has a set of dots on either side of the abdomen (dorsolateral spots). I photographed this at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden where there was a female form lineata nearby.

Such a perfect egg oval form, reminds me of a drawing by the German expressionist Alfred Kubin, titled Das Ei, 1902 (the egg)
