Salmonier Nature Park, NL

Reportedly there are more Moose in Newfoundland than there are people. Highway signs everywhere warn of the dangers of Moose/car collisions, especially during dusk. We saw many billboards listing the number of vehicle/Moose collisions and the number of deaths to date this year. We, however, only saw two Moose along the side of the highway during our 3000Km journey across Newfoundland. We did, however nearly get wiped out, not by the sighted Moose, but by a dumb tourist who cut right in front of us then slammed on the brakes all to get a picture of the Moose along the side of the road.

The Moose in this image was shot at the Salmonier Nature Park.

Fantastic shot, Hank! We saw several moose at Baxter State Park in Maine last spring. Apparently the key is to go when the black flies are horrid as they drive the moose into water where they are easier to find. Not much fun for us humans either but we did see moose!

Based on your text, and of course your images, I need to go to NF. I have never yet seen a moose in the wild, neither here, Nova Scotia or anywhere else I have been where they supposedly are common. Excellent portrait of this young one, Hank.

This is absolutely fantastic, Hank!!! I really like seeing moose (not often enough around here, unfortunately) and if I could get a photo like this I'd be delighted! A very fine shot.
