Word has it that there are nearly as many Moose on Cape Breton Island as people. The person we rented the house from assured us that Moose often crossed the property early morning (5:00 A.M.) or in the evening. Our Grandchildren were up before 5:00 the next morning to see there first Moose and I got up to photograph my first. No Moose however. This was repeated the next morning. We never did see a Moose on the property. During our trip along the Cabot Trail, we did see three Moose, a male and female along the highway and a young male along one of the hiking trails. So the Grandchildren did get to see their first Moose and I got my first photo of one in the wild.
In the above image, a male Moose is checking us out as we had stopped along the highway. A female Moose was calmly grazing along the road; however, the male was somewhat apprehensive and kept darting in and out of the woods.
