Wilson's Phalarope, first basic

Radio Road, Redwood Shores

This Wilson's Phalarope has molted out of its juvenal plumage into first basic, with head and body feathers like adult basic, but juvenal wing feathers retained, notably the dark brown tertials with prominent buff linings. It retains this plumage throughout its first year.
