Passed down to me from my mother, this is a relic from the days before steam irons, back when they actually pressed their clothes. This sprinkler head has been stashed in my junk drawer for years and each time I see it I give thanks for newer technology and permanent pressed clothing.
To use it you needed a narrow-necked glass bottle, filled 3/4 full with tempid water. Then you inserted the sprinkler head into the bottleneck and gently shook the water onto your clothing, lightly sprinkling it. Next the article of clothing was rolled up and let to rest for awhile, sometimes for as long as overnight if something interupted your plans for ironing. Often the rolls of materieal were put into plastic bags to keep the water from evaporating. This process allowed the water to soak through the material, making for instant steam and better results when ironing the clothing.
