A big surprise to us was the existance of the huge storage facility of Mierzecice. We were invited as a surprise during our first visit to Poland in 1991, when Mierzecice showed its retired hardware at the fullest. New times, no enemy left, so the first (of many) cuts meant that 23 SBLim-2's (MiG-15UTI), 30 Lim-5's (MiG-17F), 11 Lim-6's (updated MiG-17F), 11 Ts-11's, 27 Su-7's and 52 MiG-21's (next to 18 active MiG-21's of 2ELM/11PLM based temporary) were seen on June 9th, 1991. All of these would find their way to musea, abroad or end up as scrap. Pictured are Lim-5 1707 (went to the USA as N9143Z) and Lim-5R 1910 (later preserved Montelimar).
