Verona's famous Roman Amphitheater dates from the 1st c. The Amphitheater was originally used for gladiatorial events, as well as other popular venues.
It is one of the best-conserved monuments of its kind, and today is used for an extensive opera season.
Beneath the arena, there are galleries, cells and passageways which once served (and are still used), for the complex operation of the amphitheater.
