Andrena dunningi bee

Fletcher Wildlife Garden. There were a number of these bees around a patch of bare soil, and there were also many nest holes too. These are slightly larger Andrenid bees than the delicate pale coloured ones that appear even earlier than these. Andrenids are important pollinators so it is good to try and encourage them to stick around and to protect their nest sites. Thanks to Bug Guide for help with ID.

Another excellent close up with super detail. I'm glad there are other bees besides honeybees that are pollinators since they may become all but extinct. V.
