I noted this bird on the southeast (ocean-facing) side of the Crescent Beach part of Saquish about 150 yards west of where the road divides into the "front beach" access vs the back road.
Initially I spotted two birds, one light and one dark, from about 200 yards, and with my scope I could see that they were plovers. The behavior intrigued me. The light colored bird would run at the dark one and then walk away; it repeated this 3-4 times. It didn't seem like territorial jousting but more like flirting or like a puppy trying to get an adult dog to play with it. As I walked closer the light bird flew off and flashed the black "armpits" of a Black-bellied Plover. The other bird remained, and once it turned sideways I knew it was a Golden. This picture is posted to give the setting. The ones that follow show the bird close up.
