Back on Feb. 18th's gallery, I documented a female Woodduck trying to use a Kestrel nesting box as a home for her and her eggs. The Kestrels drove this female off. Today, the female Woodduck was back again eyeing the site for herself. Four times she tried to get close to the box and four time the Kestrels made her dive into the water to escape these little warrior's sharp talons. This photo documents her first attempt. Later she attempts to use a Woodduck box located behind the Observation Building, as documented within this galley, but she had to abandon her effort since it was occupied by a female Hooded Merganzer. The only other box near this area is one that is equiped with a wireless video camera.......but as of this morning it was temporarily occupied by a snake (also photographed in this gallery). Hopefully soon she may have a chance to rent this space for the Spring Season.
