Just after the summit of the Haines Highway the majestic profile of Three Guardsmen Mountain comes into view. On the other side of the mountain the road starts the long descent to the port town of Haines in Alaska.
The Haines highway is a very scenic route and provides many beautiful panoramic views. Especially remarkable is the passage over and near the highest point of the road and the Three Guardsmen Mountain.
The Haines Highway connects Haines in Alaska with Haines Junction in the Yukon Territory, passing through the province of British Columbia. For the first 180km (110 miles) from Haines it follows the route of the old Dalton Trail and the total length of the highway is 244 km (152 miles) long.
