I recently had lunch at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe (Lancashire, England) and was knocked-out by the blend of the hotel's original art deco design and the modern refurbishment. In particular I couldn't resist taking some shots of the main staircase. Only problem was I had not taken my camera with me!!! How many times have I told myself that I must ALWAYS travel with a camera. However my mother in law came to the rescue with her Fuji compact (which she ALWAYS does have with her - and it is me who is supposed to be the photographer!). I was very pleasantly surprised with the outstanding results I achieved with this basic compact.
Anyway, this is the first of three images I am posting of this amazing staircase. To begin I thought this image would look best in B&W but upon reflection I think the colours of the ceiling art work and the muted colours of the handrails etc add to the image.
