I recently had lunch at the Midland Hotel in Morecambe (Lancashire, England) and was knocked-out by the blend of the hotel's original art deco design and the modern refurbishment. In particular I couldn't resist taking some shots of the main staircase. Only problem was I had not taken my camera with me!!! How many times have I told myself that I must ALWAYS travel with a camera. However my mother in law came to the rescue with her Fuji compact (which she ALWAYS does have with her - and it is me who is supposed to be the photographer!). I was very pleasantly surprised with the outstanding results I achieved with this basic compact.
This is the second of three images I am posting of this amazing staircase. I love how the contrasty B&W treatment accentuates the intersecting straight lines of the staircase and building. There is almost an optical illusion going on - with the stairs seeming to go both up and down (or am I the only one seeing this?).
