Jumping spider (Phidippus princeps) with dragonfly

Marlborough Forest

This spider had caught a teneral (freshly emerged) dragonfly. At this stage it is sometimes hard to determine which dragonfly it is as the patterns and colours have not formed, but it might have been a Baskettail species. She was hanging on for dear life to the dragonfly, which was about four times her size! By the time I saw these two, the dragonfly was dead (or paralyzed).

Amazing. Wonderful shot of what is a daily occurrence, and unfortunately most people never see or even wonder about! V

Remarkable shot, Christine!! Even if this is a large jumper, it is still tiny. Fantastic macro work and a truly keen eye!! VVV
