House "Under The Pigeons"

Warsaw, Poland

During the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, this old 17th c. house was burnt down.
After the Uprising an unknown woman lived in the ruins together with pigeons, people called her a "Pigeon-keeper".
When the house was rebuilt in 1953, the portal with sculpture of pigeons (by Janina Karwowska) was added to commemorate that woman.

What a wonderful image! The texture and colors in the wall are delicious! The door itself is so handsome with its intricate ironwork and best of all, the delightful sculpture of pigeons to commemorate the old pigeon-keeper. *V*

What a beautiful carving of birds above the door. I love the arch too. Excellent photo and a remarkable story to go with it. V

This is a very nice image, and the story relating to the image is interesting.
It is nice they remembered her ,I am sure she is thrilled looking down upon the place she once lived.
Nice in the thin bezel blue frame and tack sharp .
