14/12 The Stenbeck Tree

Worlds highest Christmas tree on Skeppskajen in the Old Town in Stockholm.
38 m high with 5000 lights.
And the star on top is 4 meters in diameter.

I have spend the day at doctors appointments.
Couldnīt extend my thumb when the plaster cast was removed last week
. Yesterday the physio therapeut at work said I should get back to the orthopedic and check it out.

Well, that guy knew his trashed tendons and sent me to the handsurgeon on duty in Stockholm.
He checked my wrist and my x-rays and confirmed that one of the tendons in the thumb is gone.
And his guess is a sharp bonefragment from the radius fracture tore off the tendon when I broke my wrist.

He looked a bit annoyed when I told I didnīt even get to see a orthopedic after the fracture,
they just put the wrist in plaster in ER.
And I told the ER doctor I couldnīt lift my thumb.
"Thatīs because the wrist is fractured" was the answer.
I thought they knew their trade...

So on Friday itīs surgery and they will replace the missing tendon with one from the inside of my wrist or from the back of my hand.
Thereīs an extra tendon in both places so I have my own spare parts.
And hey! Then itīs time for a plaster cast again.
For another four weeks.
And then physio and stuff for 4-8 weeks until itīs completely mended.

AND if my wrist still hurts/bothers me when the original radius fracture is completely mended (in six months or so) they might have to brake the bones and put in a spare wedge of bone to straighten up the wrist,
īcause thatīs in wrong position too.
And that means some nice plaster time again.

Thatīs what might happen if you slip on a icy spot,
so DON`T do it. Not so fun...

Well, I managed to snap some photos with my D700 and 50mm 1:8 lens on my way from the hospital to the publishing companys Christmas party.
You see, I was on my way to Stockholm any way today!
That photography kind of made my day.
And hurt like hell after all poking and prodding and twisting of my poor hand by those doctors.

And guess what, the local orthopedic I met today was a Nikon owner too.
So half the time we talked about cameras.
LOL! He has a Nikon D300...

Now Iīm off to bed, had an early wake-up call,
so I didnīt sleep at all.
There should be a law against early mornings...

sorry to hear this! what bad luck you have had. I wonder why they did not check the tendons when you first broke your wrist so they could have operated at once? :-(
