Some would argue that this man became bigger than the mountains he climbed: New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay successfully conquered Everest for the first time on 29th May 1953 - his subsequent influence and input to the development and improvement in the quality of life for the Nepalese people is immeasurable.
