Two weeks ago, my camera flaked out. Most controls were unresponsive, I couldn't change settings, and the Menu was inaccessible.
Something similar had happened a couple of years ago, and after a 5 minute search online, I found a reset option that fixed the issue.
This time, however, I couldn't find those instructions that helped last time.
Most troubleshooting steps I found involved resetting the camera to factory defaults, but this is done through the Menu, and since I couldn't access the Menu, that was not an option.
I did find several vague references to a "Power Reset", but none of the instructions were complete, with "removing the battery" and "15 seconds" being the only things any of them had in common.
My first conversation with a Sony support tech also included the unhelpful suggestion of doing a "Power Reset" which was "holding in the ON/OFF button for 15 seconds". This camera has a switch, not a button, so there is nothing to "hold in".
Sending the camera in for repairs was $200 minimum.
I was not ready to give up, so I tried contacting Sony Support again, this time with just the request of how to reset the camera without using the Menu. I was again told I could do a "Power Reset", but this time I finally got all the steps that everyone else kept leaving out.
I thought my first photo of the day with my camera working once again should be the full steps so I will never again forget them.
1. Remove the battery.
2. Slide the Power switch to ON for at least 15 seconds.
3. Slide the Power switch to OFF for at least 1 minute.
4. Reinsert the battery.
