they don't make them like they used to!

When was it that the consumer decided that it was ok to accept poorer quality at the same price? Or did we? It seems that suppliers these days source evreything from far and wide with the only concern being profit, workmanship no longer matters. It looks like nothing is as good as it used to be and when you complain the manufacturer/supplier just doesn't seem to care. I bought these boots four weeks ago - they have the same name as boots and shoes I've used for years and have recommended to many people for their comfort and longevity. The other night one of the lace eyelets came off, do the company care? What do you think. I believe the guy who started the company will be turning in his grave.

It is such a sad state of affairs when trusted "British" brands are no longer made in Britain and the goods are of inferior quality - even if you still have to pay top prices!
I am afraid it is now a fact of life that so much is made in the far east by workers on slave wages so that the shareholders get a bigger dividend! Our daughter lives in Colorado and when we visit we find nearly everything there made in China!!! Is it just our age,John, or has all pride in workmanship and value gone to pot?!! Sorry,as well as everything else, I have become a grumpy old sod!!

Good grief man! You're not supposed to *walk* in these!!! No wonder the eyelets popped off, you're clearly using the boot for a purpose for which it was not made....

frustrating but any company can have an occasional manufacturing fault... maybe you were just unlucky? :-)

Oh don't start me on the " throwaway society " we have become, please...grrrrrr!!

It used to be a Friday car now it seems to be Friday everything!

Seems to be the global trend; and I could hazard a guess as to where they where were made.
Makes the point if you want something done right, then you have to do it yourself - like these shots.

Excellent point and great photographs. And you can bet that the workers in 3rd world countries that actually make these things are barely kept alive. Think about your cameras too .....!

These boots weren’t made for walking! I have had the same problem with the eyelets on some quite expensive boots, I blame the laces for being too strong for the quality of the boots - it use to be those that snapped first!

Their probably made by a factory turning them out under licence for many many trade names. Such a shame. Imagine if Talents gave Nissan a part that was as shoddy as this, the implications would be massive. I'm afraid the consumer has lost his clout, the man at the bottom of the supply chain is irrelevant because the man at the top has already made his profit long before, and protects his assets with mass volume.

Nothing lasts anymore, shame as i bet the old ones fiited like a glove and were really comfy.

I replied to Al
"I don't doubt the retailer will give me a refund Al, I've been using the same little family shop for years, I'm more upset that so called British manufacturers are now dealing us tat made abroad."
globalgadabout08-Oct-2010 18:35
that's globalisation for you...quality goes down while prices go up..they do look ideal though for giving them a good boot up the backside..
Al Chesworth08-Oct-2010 18:28
Miserable buggers, demand a refund, clearly not fit for purpose. Retailers responsibility to give a refund, and that's the law in this country.
Phillip Normanton08-Oct-2010 17:08
Well it's obviously user-error - you didn't really want to use them, did you? :o)

I do really agree with you Johnny...right across the board from household items such as washing machines to the clothing we wear...what can we do as we have to have these items...complaints these days are like water off a ducks back!...Great shot...BV

Really shabby, Johnny...if they won't do anything about it, name some names! I don't want to be buying my next pair, from a bunch of cowboys.

Climb the chain and complain. That is unacceptable.
