During the late 60's and early 1970 when I was stationed in Tampa, this majestic old building house the large U. S. Public Health Service Out-patient Clinic on the second floor and they treated merchant seamen and Coast Guardsmen. All of our recruits received their physical exams there to ensure that they met the physical standards before being accepted for recruit training. It was my job to prepare all the paperwork for the physicals, get the recruits back for additional tests, and get the signatures of the examining doctors and dentists on the completed paperwork. I was also a patient at the clinic many times. The building also housed the main Post Office for Tampa and court rooms for the federal courts.
