FWG 20th anniversary party

Happy Birthday/Happy Anniversary, Bon Fete, to us!! We celebrated 20 years of existence with a big party at the garden. It was well attended, as you can see from this group photo, and seeing many of our previous volunteers again was wonderful. Peter Hall and Jeff Harrison both attended, the founding fathers of the garden, and gave us their reminiscences about how the garden came to be. Eileen Chivers, the first manager of the Backyard Garden, shared her memories of those early days and it was a powerful experience to hear the collective wisdom of these three folk instrumental in getting this wildlife garden going.

The party turned out really well. It was great to see the excellent turnout of people associated with the FWG in the past and present. Fun to catch up with folks we hadnt seen for a long time. And the speeches by the original organizers of the project were most enjoyable. It really brought home how with a lot of determination and hard work a relative wasteland for nature ( fields of grass), can be regenerated into a rich habitat for a multiplicity of species. Thanks to those who had the foresight to dream up this project and then carry though with it. I know it was a really tough slog at times. So many thanks for all the hard work that the many people associated with the FWG have done and continue to do. Thanks for not giving up when things got difficult. The wild creatures who make use of the property for their habitat needs thank you as well as they live and thrive there.
And many thanks to Diane, Barbara and especially to Christine for the great party.
