Newborn bison calf, Yellowstone National Park, 2010

These bison are grazing the Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. The calf has been born very recently, a common sight in the early spring months.

You are right -- the bison is somewhat monstrous in its adult phase, exactly what nature intends.

Yes, the babies were wonderful, a special spring feature of Yellowstone. They won't be babies for long -- they must grow so quickly in order to survive.
