My Ugly Secret

Because PNM will otherwise take my power and RECs for free, I am forced to burn in place as much as I can in a billing period. Kind of ironic considering this area and this area alone will be facing a 45-70 percent rate hike early next year.

So now I use an electric hot water heater to heat water which is then circulated into 450 feet of tubing that is now cooled inside the refrigerator. A waste of enough energy to recycle 200 pounds of aluminum every month.

To waste power, why not just drop two bare wires in a pond. The pond may get boiling hot if it is small. To reduce the power wasted move the bare wires farther apart and/or reduce the surface area that is bare or stick the bare part of the wires down into the mud in the bottom of the pond. This is an electrolytic resistor. A single hot wire will load one half of the 240 volts as the pond is a reasonably good ground. I suppose there is a slight possibility of electric shock if someone wades in the pond. A slight tingle is more likely. This procedure is not aloud by the electric code, so you will need to be sneaky. Does government ever do anything well? Neil
