I took a nondescript shot of a lonely canoe banked along the Columbia River and there the picture sat until I decided to try a touch of selective color using Lightroom 3 only.

My first approach was to desaturate the whole imate except for the read channel with some treatment to lower highlights and some color channel luminance to bring out the "gloomy day".

Then, for fun, I decided to apply a brighten and saturation brush bringing out the yellow-greens in the woodsy background.
