Being surrounded by so many deer and being so close gave me the opportunity to try to capture some of the gradations of brightness in their fur coats. These gradations which tend to dark at the top and lighter towards the bottom are for camouflage. I used to have troubles understanding how this worked as camouflage, but basically what the gradations do is reduce the contrast on the animal’s coat and therefore blur the animal’s shape. I’ve tried to capture this before without any success and today’s attempts were not much better. This was the only photo that turned out okay. Be sure to check out my new Gag Reel gallery for an example of a photo that didn’t turn out okay!
