The scene itself looks like a painting out of the Old West, or a set from a John Ford film. This photographer is energetically following the flow of light and shadow as it rolls across the floor of the Valley at dusk.
If you substituted the tripod for a painter's easel you'd have a classic shot of a classic painting scene! I love the composition, and the fact that the photographer is nearly in silhouette. It is what he sees that we see that's important.
I try to go to places where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Monument Valley is one of those places. It a desert landscape with ancient rock formations speaking of the earth's history. In the early or late light, such formations become strikingly beautiful in terms of color, light, and shadow placement. I was fortunate to be able to visit such a place as this and offer my own interpretations of what I saw. Thanks, Alina, for enjoying it.
