On the way to one of the peaks in the Crater Island massif I encountered a rutty section
of road that the Green Weenie could not handle---the problem was ground clearance. To
remedy the problem I got out the shovel and performed some road surgery.
The big problem was the deep rut at left, now filled in with dirt harvested from a high spot in the
center of the road and the high shoulder at right. The repair worked like a charm, enabling the Green
Weenie to proceed for another quarter of a mile or so. From there I hiked to the summit of Peak 5297
(named after its summit elevation in feet), which lies east-southeast of the highest peak (5743 feet/ 1750m).
Crater Island is the northern extension of the Silver Island Mountains, which lie northeast
of Wendover, Utah. Geotagging is approximate. This view is to the southwest.
