Slime mould (Lycogala epidendrum)

These are the young fruitbodies. When old they turn grey (see next photo). These small globular slime moulds are common on rotting logs.

Wonderful photo, I found almost the same today on rotting wood.They are very tiny(approx. 1 cm)

On first looking at the thumbnail I thought it was a closeup of human toes but then . . . they turn out to be globular slime moulds. Very interesting.
