When the boat comes in.

The Oceans of the world

Dance ti' thy daddy, sing ti' thy mammy,
Dance ti' thy daddy, ti' thy mammy sing;
Thou shall hev a fishy on a little dishy,
Thou shall hev a fishy when the boat comes in.

As over fishing depletes fish stocks and bottom dredging
destroys marine habitat, how much longer will the boat come in?

A legitimate question.
And your picture comes very strong with it.

Eat this meal very slowly. This little fishy was not meant for a big appetite!

Great image and commentary!
The other day I wanted tilapia for dinner. The only I could find in our supermarket was from China!

I like your environmental comment. Soon there will be no boat coming in anymore to bring the fish.

Fresh fish has become already so expensive, I guess the swarms move to other places in the oceans away from shores, so it´s harder to catch them, only the big boats are out there, which are already processing the fish to, what we here in Germany eat a lot "Fischstäbchen", I´m not sure if you heart about or have them in other parts of this world. Just a thought to this subject!!

Nice image, sad story. Good work!

ace shot and a meaty question...here in BC we learned today that bears, both black and grizzly, are disappearing along the coast and inland rivers..starving to death because salmon runs have collapsed...many causes behind that, but warming oceans, overfishing, and habitat degradation have played a big role..this tiny, forlorn fish could one day be an expensive delicacy...

Good day of fishing...

Somtimes less is just, well, less. Hard hitting image.

Those Tiger Prawns I showed yesterday I forgot to mention are farmed, not from the sea.
Great image & message, John

Yes, I agree with Doug ...... also think that there are many on the planet even now that would glad of this fish for their meal! Not that I'm not getting a lot of vicarious enjoyment from all the food photos .....! Well done for this one .... we conceived and presented!

That's a very sorrowful looking fish...I want to say sprat, I love that word...spratspratsprat!!
A very timely message John, as we all get carried away with our food photos, that some of this stuff is finite and we should really take more care with our edible neighbours on this planet...food for thought indeed

Very nice shot and a great idea for the challenge. As with global warming, I think we're in for a nasty surprise when we find out the true extent of the effects of our destruction of the oceans.
