Aug 29, Sat - day 23
White City, Oregon to Burns, Oregon
Weather - cooler with some high clouds
Moving day had arrived…7:05am and we were on the road again heading for the truck stop, where we had stayed last year, at Burns, Oregon. (Truck stops are usually a safe and friendly place to stay for a short overnight stop and we use them frequently when we are moving from place to place.) This was the longest planned travel day, in terms of mileage, so far on the trip, but not the longest time wise. That honor goes to Highway 101 in Oregon, due to the condition of the road on the Oregon coast.
We’d decided to go to Klamath Falls and then up 97 to Bend and take 20 on to Burns, instead of going to Lake View and up 395. Traffic was minimal, the road condition was good, and it made for very enjoyable driving.
Racine is always busy taking photos out of the side window as we cruise down the highway in Gus. She remarked that this leg of the trip way much easier to photograph than the Oregon coast, there were no precipices, hairpin turns or extreme curves to worry about. The only problems were we were moving a little faster so getting the subjects in focus was a challenge and the bugs were so thick on the front window getting any clear shots through it was next to impossible (we don’t do this too often, only when its something we just don’t want to miss).
As we approached Burns we were coming face to face with a HUGE electrical storm. Fortunately it stayed to the east and dissipated overnight. We had a few splats of rain, but not enough to wash the dust, or the bugs, off Gus.
Long day, enjoyable driving, and it was easy to fall asleep knowing we would hook up to wi-fi tomorrow. It has been almost a week and we’re beginning to show signs of extreme deprivation! The adventure continues…
