23-AUG-2009 Racine Erland

Day 17

Oregon Coast

Aug 23, Sun - day 17
Neskowin, Oregon to White City, Oregon
Weather cool along the coast, 60’s then warming rapidly as we headed inland to the high 80’s (31C)

It was a long day. We started at 7:30 am traveling on foggy, slow, narrow, winding, and not so smooth roads, as we journey down the coast to Reedsport and then turned inland back towards I=5.

Racine worked hard to get some beach shots from the open side window, but she had a few challenges. She hates roads with tight curves, steep cliffs, no guard rail, and crazy cars coming at us (highway 101 has more than a few of these). Hanging out the window to shoot pictures was sometimes a harrowing experience for both of us.

When we reach I-5, near Roseburg, Or,, the temperature was in the low 90’s (34C) with a nice breeze, one that felt like you’d just opened the oven. Today turned out to be one of the few days that we used the air-conditioning while we were driving. We stopped for lunch at a rest area along I-5, crashed for about half-an-hour and then continued down the road.

Finally, about 4 pm, we reached our home for the next five days just east of White City, Or. We got/gave hugs around to our daughter Carla, her husband Corey, and Corey’s parents Sonja and Larry.

Gus the Bus was settled in under the cover of the arena and then we were on to catching up with everyone…lots of stories to tell and many plans to make. There was a beautiful sunset to end the day. The adventure continues…

Ahhhhh ... I've been waiting for this update! For those of us stay-at-homes it was "voyage interruptus" (hehehe). So nice to be able to enjoy the trip through you two's perspectives and vision.

Please have a lovely rest of your vacation.
