A few of my 'band of brothers', and one of our
tracking dogs - both dogs were black, but this looks like 'Julian'.
(As it happened, this was the calm before the storm just a few hours into the night.)

Most of my friends agree that the most common experience for combat soldiers was the tedium, discomfort and downright misery of the existance, with the always-present undertone of danger. "The calm before the storm" is right. There was always another storm coming but you didn't know when or how it would arrive. This is a great photo. I wish I had taken more people photos when I had the opportunities. V (for Valor)

I can only think of the boy in our neighbourhood who came home in a box & my cousin who was a month younger than me when he left, but forever much older when he returned...
