Sprint, New York City, New York, 2009

Some use umbrellas; others prefer to run between the raindrops. Such is the case here, as a young man sprints headlong across rain swept 34th Street. The white bars here seem to chart his watery path from curb to curb, each bar a step closer to home.

Thanks, Tim, for putting this image into the same class as "The Kick" (http://www.pbase.com/image/106455700 ) and "Decisive moment" (http://www.pbase.com/image/72900078 ) All three of these images feature a moment of extreme tension, as yet unresolved. And all three deal with energetic youths. The other two images have a bit more colorful backgrounds (Tunisia and Morocco tend to be a bit more exotic than 34th and Lex) but I think this image can hold its own in terms of grabbing the imagination, and making people think about ideas such as your "lack of foresight" comment. I agree -- the spirit expressed by all three images is very similar in nature.

I think of this image in relation to your other runner images - the soccer player in Tunisia and the boy running in the streets and the runner in Morocco - here you've caught the energy and lack of foresight of youth (he forgot his umbrella) in a different world - but with a similar spirit as the other two.
