FOUR GENERATIONS CELEBRATE 60th ANNIVERSARY FLIGHT
Reedley based pilot Don Beckenhauer was recently joined in the cockpit of his personal airplane by his son Doug, grandson Ryan, and great-grandson William as he made a local flight celebrating his first flying lesson in May 1949. In the ensuing years, Capt. Beckenhauer has accumulated nearly 32,000 hours of commercial flying in crop dusters, air charters, and with United Airlines. He estimates he has flown over 12,000,000 passengers in 37 countries. A highlight of his career was flying 33 missions in Desert Storm. His favorite hobby in retirement is flying sightseeing tours in the Sierras with his family and friends.
The anniversary flight was greeted by several family members, including Don's wife, Lydia, who has encouraged his flying for over 51 years. She has joined him on flights across the United States, and to Europe, Australia, and the Far East.
