Faughart Old Graveyard

An old tombstone, possibly medieval, in
the graveyard at Faughart where Edward The Bruce
who was killed in the Battle of Faughart 1318, is buried.

my grandparents are buried in this
old Faughart cemetery next to the holy well. The wishing tree, with its written intentions of paper or cloth tied to it's branches overhangs Mary McCoy Daly's headstone. She was an educated, powerful woman who spoke Gaelic and recounted the old stories from the oral tradition. The cemetery has all the elements of a very ancient megalithic holy place including a stone circle. The energy of the place causes a shift in consciousness that transports you back to those old times.

Great wideangle shot. My old 21-35mm Sigma won´t work with my DSLR so I am thinking about this lens!

I like the PoV and perspective, Mairead...the ominous clouds in the distance add nicely to the overall effect. V
