It's a rare sight to see Turkey Vultures roosting in trees, they are almost always seen soaring on the thermals, and we were lucky enough to see two on a recent trip to Maple Bay. They were obviously traveling together and they didn't stick around for long when we stopped to get some shots. Even more unusual is to hear them vocalize, which this vulture was doing. Turkey vultures, like most other vultures, have very few vocalization capabilities. They can only utter hisses and grunts. They usually hiss when they feel threatened. Grunts are commonly heard from hungry young, and adults in courtship.
