Fort Ticonderoga Battlefield

Ticonderoga, New York

Fort Ticonderoga is an 18th-century fort built at the south end of Lake Champlain with close access to the north end of Lake George. The fort was strategic during the colonial period during conflicts between Great Britain and France because it controlled trade routes between the Hudson River Valley and the Saint Lawrence River Valley. The name "Ticonderoga" is from an Iroquois word meaing "at the junction of two waterways".
