The atypical Capitol building was completed in 1899, the most expensive government building of its time. It was inspired by the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) in Paris. The building includes marble cut by prisoners at Sing Sing. Underground tunnels connect it to Nelson Rockefeller's Empire State Plaza.
